UMBARA’s debut album Songs from an
Ordinary Life (Panggung Lukisan Warna Hidup) is exactly what its title says
it to be.
Whether it is about the young boy who sells
cakes after school or the thrill which the radio brought long before television came into our lives or the sight of a red
ant as it fights its way up a slippery metal pole or the folklore of a man who disowned his mother and then was turned into
stone, Songs from an Ordinary Life celebrates the poetic in our everyday
life.
Comprising 10 original songs written by poet – musician CG
Karmin, Songs from an Ordinary Life eschews either the usual four piece band formation or the use of electronica
that is so often heard in the music scene today. In contrast, CG Karmin’s declamatory singing style which highlights
the narratives of his lyrics set to the acoustic guitar playing of well-known guitarist Addy results in a simplicity and directness
of expression that is not often heard in this fast paced world of the 21st century.
